Hi there, thank you for stopping by our website! Coulter Farms is owned and operated by Clayton and Allison Coulter. We appreciate our family, friends and community who have helped us spread the word about our farming operation, horse boarding facility and livestock fence installation & repair business. Word of mouth is truly the best way for us to advertise! Clayton and I look forward to meeting new people as we continue to expand our operation and side businesses. For those of you that don’t know us all that well keep reading!
Clayton grew up in Philo, IL where he spent most of his childhood fixing things. In 2011 Clayton received his Automotive Technology degree from Parkland College. Throughout high school and until his mid-twenties he was a full time mechanic in Homer, IL. Clayton was fortunate to have Denny Bosch and Gary Norhen help jump start his farming career in 2013. Denny to this day plays a vital role in our lives as a mentor and we will forever be grateful for his friendship. Gary, who sadly passed away in 2019 was always there to guide and encourage us in our first few years of farming. Our farming operation would not be what it is today without these two gentleman. In 2018 Coulter Farms officially took over all production and land management decisions.

I, Allison am originally from Tolono, IL where I grew up on a grain farm and commercial landscape site. I spent most of my childhood riding and caring for horses. In 2010 I received my H-B Horse Management Certification through the United States Pony Club and in 2015 my bachelor’s degree in Crop Soil and Environmental Management from Southern Illinois University Carbondale. After graduating from college my horse hobby eventually turned into a full blown business now known as Coulter Farms Horse Boarding LLC. The boarding business is ran out of the same barn that I was fortunate enough to grow up in.

In an effort to make improvements to our own farmstead we purchased a post driver in 2017. Over the next few years Clayton and I were fortunate enough to build a relationship with Don Hewing from Philo, IL who owned and operated a livestock fencing business. In 2020 we acquired the fencing business from Don.

Clayton and I met in 2012 and were married in 2018. When we are not working you can find us driving around checking crops, out in the barn with our own herd and spending time with our family and dog Emma! While we feel fortunate to have farming as our primary business, the horse boarding and fencing help to offset the down time and risk that comes along with row crop farming.

Cheers!
